Introduced in the early 1990s, Lyocell was marketed as a type of rayon, but it became a new fiber classification in 1996. The properties of lyocell are closer to cotton than any other manufactured regenerated cellulose fiber. The major difference between lyocell and rayon is that lyocell is much more durable and has a much stronger wet strength. Like rayon, lyocell is produced from wood pulp. Lyocell is often marketed under the brand name, Tencel®.
